About The Meat Shop
Our Prairie Roots Run Deep

Our story is rooted in the rich agricultural traditions of the Western Canadian Prairies, where ranchers and farmers have been stewards of these wide-open spaces for over a century.

At The Meat Shop, we’re more than a place to buy exceptional meat and produce — we're the bridge connecting our farming community to your family’s table. When you shop with us, you know exactly where your food comes from and how it was produced.

A Love for the Land

As Hutterites, our traditions and values are closely connected to the land — the place where we live and work. It shapes how we approach everything from raising animals to growing vegetables to serving our customers.

The connection between healthy, living soil and nutritious food isn't agricultural theory for us — it's a daily reality we have the privilege to witness firsthand. When soil biology is thriving, the grasses that feed our cattle and the crops that nourish our other animals become more nutrient-dense. Whether it's beef, pork, chicken, eggs, or vegetables, the quality of what we produce carries those benefits directly to your table.

Our Approach to Land Stewardship

Maintaining and enhancing the natural system of soil, water, and air is vital to future generations. As stewards of the land, we strive to think in decades. This long-term perspective shapes everything from our crop rotation to how we manage soil health. An important question we try to ask ourselves is, “What will this land look like for our children and grandchildren?”

We’re learning to combine time-tested farming wisdom with modern technology when it improves our stewardship. GPS systems help us optimize our field management, advanced equipment increases our efficiency, and careful breeding techniques improve our livestock — all while endeavoring to prioritize practices like crop rotation, manure recycling, and long-term soil management that build rather than deplete the land.

On our journey to become better stewards of the land, we aim to follow the principles that have sustained prairie ecosystems for millennia — the same patterns that once supported vast herds of bison across these grasslands. By working with nature's design rather than against it, we're able to raise healthier animals and grow more nutritious crops while actually improving the land for those who will come after us.

Passing Down Our Values

We value two-way communication and mentorship. Pine Haven's senior team members lead by example, helping the next generation learn the traditions that sustain our community way of life. This transfer of knowledge goes beyond technical skills. It includes the values that make exceptional meat and produce possible: respect for animals, care for the land, and a commitment to the well-being of our customers.

In our community, young people learn by watching, participating, and gradually taking on more responsibility. They see how patient observation leads to better animal care, how understanding soil health creates better nutrition, and how honest relationships build trust with the families who depend on us for their food.

Because each individual is part of the family, there's genuine accountability in everything we do. When your name is on the product and your family depends on the land, you don't cut corners. This shared responsibility ensures that everything we sell meets the standards we'd want for our own families.

From Our Farm to Your Table

At The Meat Shop, we bring together the best of what our farming community produces. When you shop with us, you're not only purchasing delicious meats and produce — you're connecting with a food system that prioritizes quality, transparency, and sustainability.

Our grass-fed and finished beef comes from cattle that have never consumed grain, spending their entire lives on diverse pastures and eating grass-based forages during the winter months. Our pork, poultry, and eggs are raised with the same commitment to animal welfare, and our produce reflects our dedication to responsible farming practices. Every product in our shop represents our commitment to producing the most nutritious food possible while caring for the land it comes from.

Come and See Us

Your visit will start with a warm hello, and we'll go from there! We believe in the power of face-to-face relationships and honest conversations about food. Whether you're curious about how our animals are raised, wondering how to cook that perfect steak, or simply want to support local farming families, we're here to serve you.

We invite you to be part of our community — not just as customers, but as fellow stewards of this land we all call home. When you choose The Meat Shop, you're supporting farmers who value soil health, care for animals with respect, and strive to produce the kind of nutrient-dense food our great grandparents would recognize.

Our prairie roots run deep, and we're honoured to share the fruits of this land with you and your family.
